Mrs. John Hansen Died This Morning
Just as we go to press we learn of the death of Mrs. John Hansen, who resided on a farm south of Ryan Lake. Funeral services have not been arranged at this time but will probably be held from the Catholic church Friday afternoon. She leaves besides the husband, three children. The family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. We will give extended obituary next week. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, April 23, 1919)

Obituary – Mrs. J. N. Hansen
Mrs. J. N. Hansen passed away on April 23 at her home in High Lake township after a lingering illness of that dread disease, cancer.

Katie Hochstatter was born in Wyanet, Bureau county, Illinois, July 20, 1889 [per cemetery records/stone 1888], where she resided with her parents until about ten years ago when she came to Emmet county. She lived in Estherville several years. She was married to John N. Hansen January 19, 1913. They lived on the Hansen farm near Ryan Lake up to the time of her demise. She suffered terribly. All that loving hearts and willing hands could do was done. She was kind, unselfish and charitable, so that everyone who knew her loved her.

Her mother, Mrs. Henry Hochstatter, and her sister, Mrs. Nels Johnson, of Wyanet, were with her for the past five weeks.

The funeral was held Friday morning in the Catholic church and was largely attended. Her father, Henry Hochstatter, and her brother, Henry, Jr., were here to attend the funeral. The floral offerings were beautiful.

A heartbroken husband and three little children, her parents, two brothers, Henry, Jr., of Wyanet, and William, of Estherville; two sisters, Mrs. Nels Johnson and Mrs. Henry Bower, of Wyanet, Illinois, besides a host of relatives and friends, are left to mourn her death. Mrs. Schacherer, of near Wallingford, is an aunt of the deceased. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 30, 1919)
