ESTHERVILLE - Mass of Christian Burial for Vernon Goecke, 93, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Brian Hughes as Celebrant. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 31 at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville.

He died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Vernon Frank Goecke, the son of Henry and Sophia (Walz) Goecke, was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Estherville.

He received his education and graduated from Estherville High School.

On Jan. 31, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary Jo Reynolds in Estherville. Following their marriage, the couple farmed west of Estherville. Vernon was a handy man. He would recreate carnival rides and make many projects with wood. He also enjoyed doing magic tricks.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Vernon's memory are his wife, Mary Jo, of Estherville; children, Mark Goecke of Russellville, Ark., Jeff Goecke of Estherville, Becky Baker of Estherville, Laura Burns of Des Moines and Scott Goecke and his wife, Darla, of Estherville; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters: Arnold, Leonard, Alvina, Raymond, Martha McDonald, Agnes, Harold, Melvin, Victor and a stillborn brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 26, 2010)
