D. A. Fitzgibbons Dies; Rites Monday
David A. Fitzgibbons, 75, retired Armstrong depot agent, died this morning at 8:59 at Holy Family hospital, where he had been a patient since May 13.

He was depot agent at Armstrong from 1922 until he retired Dec. 10, 1957.

Mr. Fitzgibbons was born July 3, 1890, at Churdan, the son of Frank and Ella Fitzgibbons. He moved with his parents to the Bancroft area and also lived in the Spirit Lake area. When he was 16 he began working at Spirit Lake for the Milwaukee railroad.

He later became a depot agent for the Rock Island, moving to Armstrong in 1922. He was agent there for more than 35 years. He was also operator at the Roxie theater, Armstrong, from 1920 to 1945. With those earning he educated his four sons.

Mr. Fitzgibbons was married Oct. 17, 1914, to Julia Kennedy at Armstrong. They lived at Manson and Swea City before residing at Armstrong. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1984, moving a short time later to Estherville, where they have made their home at 1610 Maple Crest Drive.

He is survived by his widow; four sons, Leo A., Francis, David A. Jr., Estherville, and Dr. Robert J. Fitzgibbons, Omaha; two brothers, Leo L. and Alonzo of Spirit Lake; a sister, Mrs. Charles Sarazine, Spirit Lake; and 24 grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s church, with Msgr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Estherville.

Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Sunday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, where friend may call Sunday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 4, 1966)
