Rites for Estherville Resident
Funeral services for Michael Erpelding, 69, were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. A Rosary was recited Monday evening at the Reese Henry Funeral chapel.Pallbearers were George Booth, George Reuland, Orville Kollasch, Frank Campisano, Arnold Dalen and Ed Opelt.
Mr. Erpelding died Friday [October 25, 1968] about 9 p.m. at his home. Death was attributed to a heart attack, but he had been in failing health for a number of years.
Michael Peter Erpelding was born Dec. 21, 1898, at Springbrook, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Erpelding. The family moved to Gruver in 1911 and he received his education in the Gruver and Estherville schools.
He was married Jan 1, 1930, to Thelma Wold of Estherville and the couple lived all their married life in Estherville. Mr. Erpelding was employed most of that time by the Wilson Bakery and the P. G. Gray Co.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.
Mr. Erpelding is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. David (Shirley Ann) Perkins of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. K. (Kay Frances) --, --, Colo., -- grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. – (Hannah) Schacherer of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 31, 1968)
