Longtime Resident of County Dies
John P. Erpelding, 85, of Estherville, died this morning at the Holy Family hospital after a short illness. He was taken to the hospital following a paralytic stroke Monday. Pneumonia set in following the stroke.

Mr. Erpelding was born July 4, 1867 in New Hause, Luxembourg. At the age of 21 he moved to the United States and settled at David City, Neb. He lived in David City until he moved to Bellevue, Ia.

On Feb. 22, 1898 at Bellevue he was married to Angie Entringer. The couple settled on a farm near Bellevue. In 1909 they moved to the Estherville area and have farmed east of town until Mr. Erpelding retired several years ago and moved to Estherville.

Mr. Erpelding is survived by his wife, two sons of Estherville, Michael and Joseph; one daughter, Mrs. Ralph Schacherer of Wallingford, 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four half-sisters.

A longtime resident of Emmet county, Mr. Erpelding was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church of Estherville.

Rosary will be recited Saturday evening at the Sternborg Funeral home at 8 o’clock. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 26, 1952)

Funeral services for John P. Erpelding, 85, who died yesterday morning at Holy Family hospital will be held at 9 a.m. Monday morning at St. Patrick’s church. Rosary will be recited at Sternborg’s both tonight and Sunday night. Erpelding was born in Luxembourg in 1867 and moved to the Estherville area in 1909. Out-of-town relatives and friends here for the funeral of John Erpelding held Monday [December 29, 1952] morning at St. Patrick’s church were Mrs. Ed Schenk of Dubuque, Mrs. Harold Yeager and Pete Michels of Bellevue, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Entringer of Coleman, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bombarger, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Noll and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Packman, all of Sioux Falls.
