Death at 78 for Sampson
Ben Sampson, 78, of Superior died yesterday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital. He had been in failing health for two months.

He was born June 22, 1887, at Oskaloosa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sampson. He received his education in Oskaloosa schools.

Mr. Sampson was married to Clara Hanson April 20, 1910, at Round Lake, Minn. They moved to Emmet County in January 1915.

Mr. Sampson was employed by the Ford Motor Company for nine years and later operated his own garage until his health made it impossible for him to continue. The couple then farmed near Superior until he retired.

He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Mr. Sampson is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Fox, Mrs. William (Audine) Kinnard and Mrs. Bill (Betty) Wellnitz, all of Estherville; four sons, Marlon of Jackson, Minn., Ernest of Des Moines, Harold of Estherville, and Donald and Adolph of Superior; 19 grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Dave Collins of Windom, Minn., Mrs. Ann Hicks of Worthington, Minn., and Mrs. C. F. Peterson of Denver, Colo.; and two brothers, Ernest Hanson of Santa Monica, Calif., and Henry Hanson of Brewster, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and one sister.

Family services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Reese Funeral Home. Public services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran Church, Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Charles, Bernard, Edwin and Rolin Sampson, Robert Fox Jr. and Ben Fox.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday, when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 14, 1966)
