Obituary of Mrs. Peterson
Mrs. Maren Nelson Peterson was born in Shyeland, Denmark, on March 29, 1837. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Adam Anderson, living 6 miles northeast of Estherville, on March 3, 1912, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 2 days. She was united in marriage to Ole Peterson on Sept. 19, 1860. To this union one child was born, Kristena, now Mrs. Adam Anderson. Besides this daughter, Mrs. Peterson leaves her aged husband, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren, together with many friends and an adopted son, Henry M. Peterson.Mr. and Mrs. Peterson received this child into their home when he was but twelve weeks old and adopted him as their own. To him Mrs. Peterson has since been all that the power of a great mother’s love could make him. She loved him as she did her own, never making the least distinction between them. This child has grown to manhood and is now a minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mr. and Mrs. Peterson came to America from their native land about 30 years ago. They spent the larger part of that time in Butler and Blackhawk counties, this state, but about 10 years ago they came to Estherville where they have lived until a few months ago, when they went to live with their daughter, Mrs. Anderson.
Mrs. Peterson has been a sufferer for many years but has only been confined to her bed during the last two months. The funeral services will be conducted from the home of her daughter on Wednesday, March 6, by Rev. J. D. Vannoy, pastor of the Baptist church in Estherville. Interment will take place in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 6, 1912)
