Greg Perkins of Whittemore Dies at 24
A young Whittemore man, Greg S. Perkins, 24, died Thursday, Jan. 16, at Rochester, Minn. with complications of cystic fibrosis from which he suffered most of his life.Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Whittemore with the Rev. Cleo Kautsch officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Estherville with the Geilenfeld-Schaaf-McCullough Funeral Service of Whittemore in charge of the arrangements.
Casket bearers were Mick Elbert, Dave Elbert, Lance Bauer, Daniel T. Gilmore, Stuart Simonson and Craig Espe.
Born June 28, 1950 at Estherville, Greg was the younger son of Vic and Marjorie Keel Perkins. He moved with his family to Whittemore in January of 1951 and attended St. Paul’s grade school. He graduated from Algona Community High School in 1968 and attended Drake University at Des Moines from where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1973. Banking was his major interest.
Greg was employed for six months in Tampa, Florida and since April of this years he was assistant cashier at the Farmers State Bank in Whittemore.
He is survived by his parents and one brother, Skip Perkins of Milwaukee, Wis. His grandparents, Mrs. Amanda Keel of Terril and Mr. and Mrs. Louis V. Perkins of Belmond, also survive. (Kossuth County Advance, Algona, IA, January 20, 1975)
