Merle Monroe Dies; Services Set Thursday
Merle O. Monroe, 80, Estherville, died Saturday evening at Holy Family Hospital.

He was born Aug. 7, 1890, at Gratiot, Ohio, to Levi and Estelle Monroe. He graduated from Spokane, Wash., high school and the Washington State University, Pullman, Wash.

On June 17, 1935, he was married to Gertrude Heyman at Madison, S.D. They lived in Sioux City where he was general agent for the American Mutual Life Insurance Co. They retired and moved to Estherville Nov. 1, 1967.

He was a member of the Blue Lodge, Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine and Kappa Sigma Alpha.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; one daughter, Mrs. A. L. (Betty) Robertson, Ridgecrest, Calif.; two granddaughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with the Rev. Father Bryce Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call any time Wednesday afternoon until time of services.

The Masons will meet at the Masonic Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for Masonic services at 8 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1971)
