John Miller Died Friday
Passed Away at Coleman Hospital Following Long Illness – Rites Monday
Death came suddenly and swiftly to John D. Miller, 26, Friday, and he passed away at 11:45 p.m. at the Coleman hospital following a brief illness. Although he has been suffering from tuberculosis for the past several years and had been a patient at the Oakdale sanitarium at various intervals he has been able to be at the home of his father, Monte Miller, in Estherville for the past several months. The day previous to his latest illness he had been up town visiting with friends.

Mr. Miller had been a life long resident of this city having been born here June 11, 1915. He attended the local schools but owing to his delicate health was unable to achieve any profession or business.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Mahlum and Anderson Funeral home with the Rev. Fred D. Sawyer officiating. Burial was in the Oakhill cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Stolley, Elmer Sumpter, Maurice Salyers, Marvel Berg, Harold Reed, and D. M. Johannsen.

Besides his father, Mr. Miller is survived by two brothers, Richard Miller of Davenport and Paul Miller of Moline, Ill. He is preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Francis Miller.

In spite of his ill health and many hours of suffering, Mr. Miller maintained his calm, cheerful disposition until his final hours. His many friends in this city are deeply grieved over his untimely death. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 10, 1942)
