Mrs. Lucas is Buried Sunday
Passed Away Friday Morning; Had Been Confined to Her Bed for Past Two Months of Heart Trouble
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church for Mrs. Haviland Lucas, who passed away at her home Friday morning at 8:20 a.m. Dec. 20th. The services were held at 3:00 with the Rev. G. E. Forssell officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers were Art Shuttleworth, Frank Plymesser, Don Roberts, Arthur Biery, Herman Frey and Francis Riggs.

Mrs. Lucas had been in poor health for several years suffering from a complication of heart ailments. For the past two months she has been bedfast and suffered a great deal during the past few weeks.

Ada Mae Watrman was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Waterman. She was born in Estherville Feb. 12, 1907. She attended the Estherville school and graduated from the local high school in 1926.

On April 8, 1927 she was united in marriage with Haviland Lucas of Estherville. The couple continued to make their home in this city residing on the Lucas property south of Estherville.

Two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lucas. One, Marietta, age eleven, who survives her mother, the other having died in infancy.

While yet a young girl Mrs. Lucas united with the Baptist church and has served that church faithfully in whatever capacity necessary. She was also an active member in the Jackson and Roosevelt PTA and the willingness and cheerfulness with which she performed every duty assigned to her in spite of her physical handicap was to be marveled at. Her presence in her family, church and community will be greatly missed.

Besides her husband, daughter, and parents, Mrs. Lucas is survived by one sister, Mrs. Edwin Lucas and three brothers, Ira Waterman of Shenandoah, Roscoe Waterman, Davenport and Howard Waterman of Estherville. One brother has preceded her in death. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 24, 1940)

Mrs. Haviland Lucas Passed Away Friday After Long Illness
Mrs. Haviland Lucas passed away at her home last Friday morning after an illness of long duration. She has been a sufferer of a heart affliction and other complication. For the past three months she has been in a serious condition and had been bedfast for about two months.

Mrs. Lucas is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Waterman. She was born in this city Feb. 12, 1907 and resided in this city since her birth. She attended the schools here, graduating with the class of ’26. She was united in marriage to Haviland Lucas April 8, 1927. Two daughters were born to this union, one passed away in infancy and Marietta, 11.

Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2:30 at the Baptist church, the Rev. G. E. Forssell officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 26, 1940)
