Ex-Barber in Estherville Dies at 90
Herman Lorenz, 90, longtime Estherville retired barber, died Monday [June 10, 1968] at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital, his death attributed to complications of advanced age.

Herman Henry Lorenz was born Sept. 10, 1877, at Stuttgart, Germany. When he was three years old his parents came to the United States and lived for two years at Shellsburg, before moving to Spencer.

He received his education in the Spencer schools, and was married Dec. 31, 1913, at Omaha, Neb., to Mabel Miller.

Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz lived in Spencer for a time and then moved to Estherville, where they continued to live for many years. Mr. Lorenz, who retired in 1953, had been a barber for more than 50 years.

He was a past member of the B.P.O. Elks.

He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Alvina Engel of Hanley Falls, Minn., and Mrs. Jessie Ryan of Scandia, Minn.; a brother, Emery Lorenz of Chester, S.D., and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gordon Sheltren, Merle Strube, Orvan Anderson, Robert Wilson, L. E. Thrush, and Harry A. Jones.

Friends may call at the funeral home until the time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 11, 1968)
