John Hyrup Dead
John Hyrup, a pioneer resident of this city passed away at his home at half past one January the eighteenth. Mr. Hyrup was born in Denmark on June 26, 1855. He was united in marriage to Metta C. Hybschmann on November 22, 1882. He came to Estherville with his family in 1883.
Just before last Christmas he had a light stroke from which he never fully recovered. Only a short time ago his daughter, Mary, passed away and this was a severe shock to him. There is still living to mourn his death his wife and daughter, Christina. The funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday at 2:30, the Re. Huxford officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 21, 1925)

John Hyrup Dies of Paralysis
Resident Here For Forty Years, Coming From Denmark
John N. Hyrup, a resident of Estherville since 1883 passed away at his home early Sunday morning. He suffered a light stroke just before Christmas from which he failed to rally, gradually failing until the end came Sunday. He was nearly seventy-one years of age.
Mr. Hyrup was born June 26, 1855 in Tuftland, Denmark, and was married in that country on Nov. 22, 1882 to Metta C. Hybschmann. In 1883 they came to America coming directly to Estherville. They have made their home here continuously since then. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hyrup. A son who died in infancy, a daughter, Stena, residing at the parental home, and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Meyers, who died on Nov.3rd, 1924. Mr. Hyrup was much affected by his daughter’s death and the shock was no doubt contributory to his own condition.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two thirty from the home, interment being made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, January 21, 1925)

Seventy Years of Age
Pioneer Resident of Estherville and Well Known in This Community – Funeral Yesterday
John N. Hyrup passed away at his home on south Third street in this city Sunday morning at 1;30 after a brief illness caused from a paralytic stroke. He had been enjoying good health until ten days before his death. The death of his daughter, Mary, a few weeks ago brought grief to the family and Mr. Hyrup worried over her death until his physical condition became serious and brought on a stroke of paralysis. Deceased had been a resident of Estherville since 1883. He was married in Denmark in 1882 to Metta C. Hybschmann and a year later came to this country and direct to Estherville where the family have since made their home. When they first arrived in Estherville Mr. Hyrup took up draying and transfer and continued in this line of business for several years. Of late years he has lived a retired life. He was perhaps the best known man in this community. Coming here when the town was small he knew every resident of the city. He was kind hearted, generous and of a happy disposition and a good man to his family. two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hyrup, one passing to the great beyond only a few weeks ago. A widow and one daughter, Stena, are left to mourn his taking away. He was past sixty-nine years of age at the time of his death. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 at the Hyrup home and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. W. F. Huxford, pastor of the Baptist church, had charge of the funeral. Estherville friends extend their sincere sympathy to the bereaved widow and daughter. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 21, 1925)
