Jason Howe Dead
Jason Howe was found dead in the second floor hall of the Coon block, about 8 o’clock Monday [January 30, 1911] night. He had been complaining for some time and it is supposed that he died of heart failure. Deceased had no relatives in this part of the country, but has a sister in New York and one in California. He belongs to a good family but drink got the better of him and ruined his life. He was about fifty years old. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1911)

Beacon: Jason Howe, a familiar around the streets of Estherville, was found dead about seven o’clock Monday evening in the hall on the second floor of the Coon building. He was in a sitting position when found by Cal. White who rooms in the building. He had been seen ascending the stairs to the second floor not more than thirty minutes before he was found dead. He was a great sufferer of asthma and it is thought the exertion of climbing the stairs overtaxed his heart and he sat down to rest when he reached the second floor and died. (Milford Mail, Milford, IA, February 9, 1911)
