Mrs. Dan Howard, 78, died yesterday afternoon at Calvin Manor Nursing Home in Des Moines where she had been a resident since March 29. She moved from Estherville to Des Moines to be near her daughter, Ruth, Mrs. Donald Boyvey. Also surviving is a son, Joe, of Freeport, Ill.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fuhrman Funeral Home with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dick Pearson of the United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today and until time of the services tomorrow. Funeral services for Mrs. Dan (Vera Dell) Howard, 78, formerly of Estherville, who died at Calvin Manor Nursing Home in Des Moines Tuesday afternoon from complications of advanced age, were to be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home.She was born Oct. 19, 1891, to Mr. and Mrs. Manly Aart at Atlantic. She was educted in Osceola schools and Drake University in Des Moines.
In 1922, she was married to Dan S. Howard at Red Oak. They moved to Estherville in 1924, where he operated a grocery store with his brother for many years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO, Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Boyvey of Des Moines; one son, Joseph, of Freeport, Ill., and four granddaughters.
The Rev. Dick Pearson was to officiate and burial was to be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Emmet Amdahl., Lee Barnes, Arnold Carey, Arnold Mouritsen, Ed Rosendahl and Max Soeth. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 28, 1970)
