Walter Hoffman Funeral Held Monday
Walter Hoffman, 38, a pharmacist in the Rexall Drug store here for many years died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at his home here. Mr. Hoffman had suffered from a rare blood disease for a number of years and his condition had been critical for the past few months.Born in Estherville on March 11, 1901, he was cared for an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Rekow of Terril, after the death of his mother when he was but a few months old. He graduated from the Terril high school and attended pharmacy college in Minneapolis.
After securing his diploma, he returned to Terril and was employed at that place for a time and married there.
Surviving are his father and step mother, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hoffman, his wife and one daughter Jolene, 7, one sister, Mrs. Theo. Munsterman, Terril, and three brothers, Roy and Clarence, Mason City, and Vern, Estherville.
Funeral Monday
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at two-thirty at the German Lutheran with Rev. Otis Lang, officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.Pall bearers were Paul Helman, Royce Winkleman, Wm. Recher, Abner Sexe, Clarence Kurtz and ----. Walter E. Hoffman of Estherville Passed Away
Walter E. Hoffman of Estherville died last Thursday afternoon at his home at 1107 N. 5th St. after an illness lasting about three months.Mr. Hoffman was well known here as his mother died when he was a small boy and he and his sister, Mrs. Ted Munsterman, were raised by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rekow of this place, Mrs. Rekow being his mother’s sister. He attended school here and graduated from this school in 1920 and while in school and after graduation he helped in the Gill Pharmacy. Later he attended a school of pharmacy in Minneapolis and after he finished this, he worked here for a time.
He was married to Johanna Peters while here and later they moved to Estherville where he has since had employment in the Rexall drug store.
Mr. Hoffman was a member and active worker in the Lutheran church in Estherville. He was a young man of excellent habits and was well like not only for his pleasing ways but for his clean life.
There is beside his wife and one daughter, Jolene 7, his father, Emil and stepmother Mrs. Emil Hoffman of Estherville, his sister, Mrs. Ted Munsterman and many more distant relatives and friends left to mourn the passing of this young man. He was 38 years of age.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in Estherville Monday, conducted by Rev. Otis Lang, the pastor. Burial was made at Estherville. A large number of friends from here attended. (Terril Record, Terril, IA, November 16, 1939)
