Izaac Riggs,66, dies at Nursing Home

Izaac Edwin Riggs,66, died yesterday afternoon at the Simpson nursing home here after being in ill health for a number of years. However, he had been up and around until the day of his death.

Born Aug. 25, 1886, Mr. Riggs was the son of Isaac and Sarah Riggs. He died at the age of 66 years, seven months and 12 days.

Spending most of his life in and around Estherville, he farmed for several years near Graettinger and worked on the Rock Island railroad here. His health failed and he moved to Estherville about two years ago and has been residing at the nursing home for the past several months.

He married Ida Christine Berdahl on April 19, 1911, and to his union three daughters and one son were born. Mrs. Riggs died April 25, 1917. Mr. Riggs married Carrie Strom on Dec. 14, 1951.

Surviving his death are his wife, Carrie; and children, Mrs. Cecil (Genevieve) Grantham of Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. August (Alice) Haisman of Armstrong, Francis of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs A. A. (Ida Christine) Benton of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren: two sisters, Mrs. Clyde Beatty of Spirit Lake and Mrs. Edmund Beatty of Spirit Lake; one brother, Cecil Riggs of Estherville and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be announced in tomorrow's Daily News. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery.

Riggs Rites Thursday

Funeral services for Isaac E. Riggs will be held at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the Sternborg funeral home, the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker officiating. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery. Mr. Riggs died Monday afternoon at the Simpson nursing home at the age of 66.
