Passing of a Pioneer
Mrs. Valjer Grothe Passes Away Last Friday at Ripe Old Age
Mrs. Valjer Grothe died last Friday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. J. T. Randolph at Terril, after an illness of the last few years of a cancerous growth at the ripe old age of 84 years. The funeral was held from the home of T. J. Randolph at Terril last Sunday, conducted by Rev. Strand of Wallingford, and Rev. [ ] of Terril.Mrs. Grothe was a pioneer of this county, and her life was filled with useful and beautiful deeds. She came here from Wisconsin in the years 1870 with the family of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph N. Lee. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Lee of this city, and her grandchildren, Mrs. T. J. Randolph of Terril, N. J. Lee, Mrs. H. J. Amundson and Josephine Lee of this city and Robert M. Lee of Des Moines. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 13, 1904)
Mrs. Valjer Grothe died on Friday, April 8th, at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. T. J. Randolph, in Terril, Ia. Deceased at the time of her death was 84 years of age and had resided in this county continuously for thirty-four years. Mrs. J. N. Lee of this city, is the only surviving child. Interment was made in the Oak Hill Cemetery Sunday afternoon. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, April 13, 1904)
