Estherville – Services for Darold Wayne Griffith, 54, Estherville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Church in Estherville with the Rev. Fred Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted. Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of arrangements where friends may all until 11:30 a.m. Saturday when the body will be taken to the church.Mr. Griffith died Thursday [July 21, 1977] morning of an apparent heart attack at Topeka, Kan.
He was born May 12, 1923, at Estherville. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Griffith, Estherville. Mr. Griffith received his education in Estherville, and was married to Phyllis Martin April 1, 1946, at Jackson, Minn.
The Estherville area was his home for most of his life. He owned and operated a service station in the area, and for many years was a school bus driver. For the past four years Mr. Griffith was a semi truck driver for All-American.
He was a member of the Christian Church, the Estherville VFW Post, and the Military Order of the Cootie. He was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Griffith is survived by his wife, Phyllis, Estherville; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Griffith, Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Sandie Gunderson and Mrs. Herb (Linda) Ruben, both of Estherville; four grandchildren; one brother, Keith Griffith, Pocahontas, Ark.; and one sister, Mrs. Howard (Phyllis) Bendixen, Clear Lake, Wis. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 22, 1977)
