Rites Held for Mrs. O. R. Gardner
Mrs. O. R. (Ruby) Gardner, 90, Estherville, died Feb. 19 at her home. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.Pallbearers were Russell Barber, Jim Hartman, Rudolph Holmgren and Stanley Larsen.
She was born March 18, 1880, in Concordia, Kan., to Ira and Anna Noble.
On April 3, 1900, she was married to Omen R. Gardner. Following their marriage, they lived in Iowa and then homesteaded in South Dakota. In 1918 they returned to Iowa and lived in Emmet County near Graettinger. They retired from farming in 1936. After retirement they made trips to Florida, California and Texas to spend the winters.
They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1950. Mr. Gardner died Aug. 13, 1958.
She is survived by three sons, Ira, Albuquerque, N.M.; Lloyd, Cedar Falls; Stanley, Burbank, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Vesta) Harding, Mildred Gardner, Mrs. Byrtha Grebe, all of Estherville; and Mrs. Frank (Edith) Vasey, Puyallup, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and five sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 25, 1971)
