Services for Mrs. Edwards Wednesday
Mrs. J. D. Edwards, 64, long time resident of Estherville, died of brain hemorrhage Saturday [September 9, 1950] afternoon at 3 o’clock, at Holy Family hospital. She had been ill for two years.

She was born, Maude Clairice Baker, Jan 3, 1886, at Vinton and received her education there, graduating from high school in Vinton.

Nov. 8, 1903, she was married to J. D. Edwards of Oelwein, who at that time was employed as brakeman on the Great Western railroad.

The couple lived one year in Oelwein before moving to Brainerd, Minn., where Edwards was employed as brakeman with the Northern Pacific railroad. In 1910 the couple moved to Estherville, and Edwards was employed as brakeman on the Rock Island railroad, later starting a trucking and warehouse business, and also for a time operated a Gardston bus line.

Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Methodist church.

She is survived by her husband; five sons, Marvin and Gene of Estherville, Hamilton of Chevy Chase, Ind., Douglas of Whiting, Ind., Maurice of Lake Park; and five daughters, Mrs. Marion Wroten (Edna), of Nampa, Ida., Mrs. Jack Howard (Jeannette) of Vancouver, Wash., Mrs. Earl Reed (Marie) of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Orlin Elwood (Alice) of Lyons, Ore., and Mrs. Elmer Jensen (Doris) of Ringsted; two brothers, Guy Baker of Brainerd and Myron Baker of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters, Mrs. Aimee Loomis of Waterloo, Mrs. Alice Feller of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Leona Groves of Oakland, Calif.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Estherville Methodist church with the Rev. John DeLong officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 11, 1950)
