W. H. Davis, Former Resident Passes Away
Burial in Oak Hill

Word comes of the death of Wm. H. Davis, one of Estherville’s oldest pioneer residents. He passed away at the home of his son, G. W. Davis, of Motley, Minn., [June 22, 1931, Cass Co., per Minnesota death records] where he has been residing for several months.

Mr. Davis came to this city sixty-one years ago. He engaged in the shoe and shoe repair business in the early days. Later he had an exclusive shoe store in the building now occupied by G. H. Raife.

Mr. Davis was born in England on March 2, 1840. He was a homesteader here and purchased the rights of others who homesteaded. In later years he gave his undivided time to the shoe business.

The remains will arrive here this afternoon and the funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 24, 1931)

Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Goldsberry and family attended the funeral of Mrs. Goldsberry’s uncle, W. H. Davis, in Estherville Friday afternoon. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 1, 1931)
