Death of Mrs. Diana Cole
Diana Hoag was born in Stevens county, Illinois, May 29, 1840, and passed to her reward May 16, 1919, aged 78 years, 11 months and 17 days.

In July, 1862, she was united in marriage with Darwin Cole. They moved to Iowa in 1884 and have lived in Spirit Lake, Superior and Estherville since that time. The family home has been in Estherville since the fall of 1903. To them were born seven children, six of whom are still living, viz, Chas. of Oregon; Mrs. W. M. Flatt of North Dakota; R. J. Cole, E. C. Cole and Miss Lottie Cole of Estherville; and Mrs. W. V. Barter of St. Paul.

Mrs. Cole united with the church when a girl of 18 years. She has lived a good Christian life through the years. The pastor remembers with pleasure his first call in to her home. She told him with great pleasure of the older people of the church and gave him a clearer insight into the lives of these people than had been given him by any one else. She has always been sweet and gracious in her manner, interested in the church and Kingdom, cheerful and with a smile and sense of humor even in her pain and helplessness. She recently picked the text for her funeral sermon and indicated it to us. It is found in Numbers 28-11, and reads “Let me die the death of the righteous and let my last and be like His.”

Funeral services were conducted I the church by her pastor. She was tenderly ministered to by her children and neighbors in her affliction and laid to rest among her people to await the resurrection of the righteous. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 21, 1919)
