Broken Hip Fatal to Resident
Passed Away Yesterday at Ft. Dodge Hospital; Mother of Nine Had Resided Here Since 1891
Mrs. A. W. Case, 70, passed away at the hospital in Fort Dodge yesterday afternoon at 2:15 of heart complications which developed after she was taken to that institution a month ago with a broken hip. Her age made her condition serious from the first and little hope had been held for her recovery at any time.

Born May 1, 1869 at Muscatine, Mrs. Case had spent her entire life in Iowa. She was married to Wm. A. Case at Iowa Falls on July 3, 1891 and the couple moved at once to Estherville where Mr. Case was employed by the Rock Island. He remained in that service until his retirement a number of years ago.

The deceased woman was devoted to her home. Nine splendid sons and daughters survive her, for whom she had spent long hours of loving labor.

The children are Lee of Los Angeles, Calif., Major Robert of Baton Rouge, La., Wm. M. of Ft. Collins, Colo., Harold of Huntington Park, Calif., Mrs. G. C. Knudson, Nahalem, Wash., Mrs. J. A. Hoovel, Jackson, Minn.; Miss Maye Case and Ed of Estherville and Fred of Denver, Colo. There are 13 grandchildren. Her aged husband and sister, Mrs. E. G. Randall, Clinton, Mo., and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred Verink, also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at the Union Baptist church in charge of Rev. J. Albert Riggs. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.

The children had all been called home during their mother’s illness and several of them will be unable to return for the last rites. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 29, 1939)
