100-year-old Woman Dies
Mrs. L. C. (Charlotte) Conner, who observed her 100th birthday May 13, 1963, died this morning at the Good Samaritan Home where she had been a resident since April, 1957. Mrs. Conner’s death was attributed to complications of advanced age.

Mrs. Conner had lived in Estherville since coming here with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson, when she was four years old.

She attended the Estherville schools, the elementary school here at that time being located in the northern part of what was later converted to a city park, present location of the county courthouse.

In June, 1888, she was married to L. C. Conner and they lived on an acreage southwest of town. Mr. Conner died in 1904, leaving his widow with two children, a daughter, Maude, now Mrs. Art Betty of Fort Collins, Colo., and a son, Charles. Mrs. Conner and both children did odd jobs to contribute to the family income.

Eight years later tragedy again struck the Conner home when Charles was stricken with double pneumonia and died at the age of 23.

After the Beattys were married, Mrs. Conner made her home with them for several years. The Beatty family moved to Colorado in 1948, the year of Mr. Beatty’s retirement.

In 1953, Mrs. Conner became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Mason City and lived there for four years before transferring here.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Art Beatty, a grandson, Charles Beatty and a granddaughter, Mrs. Esther Cooklin, both of Fort Collins, and five great-grandchildren, Douglas Beatty, in the Armed Forces, Lola Beatty and David, Donna and John Cooklin, all of Fort Collins.

Reese Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 9, 1964)
