Maren Colvin
Maren Fredrikka Colvin, daughter of Ole and Marie Houg, was born in Ringprike, Norway the 24th of December 1844. As a child she was baptized and at the usual age confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She was united in marriage to Karl Fagre. Eleven children were born to them. Two of the children died in infancy. Her husband died in 1901 and in the following years she set out for America with her youngest son who alone was left with her in Norway. All the other children had preceded her to America. She first lived with a daughter in Minneapolis for four years and then spent four years with a daughter in Wisconsin.

In 1910 she married Peter Colvin of Hettinger, N.D. They lived on a farm in that state for five [?] years and then moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where they continued to make their home until August, 1921, when they came to Estherville to make their home with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Fagre. Mr. Colvin passed way the 6th of January, 1929.

Mrs. Colvin had always been a hard working woman and in spite of her advanced years, enjoyed good health until four years ago when she had a stroke. When she recovered, she was never as strong after this. She was bedfast only some ten or twelve days before death came to her on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 27th. She was at the time 91 years, 10 months and 1 day old.

Mrs. Colvin united with the Estherville Lutheran church in 1923 and as long as her health permitted, she appreciated the opportunity to worship in the house of God when there were Norwegian services. When she could no longer come to church, she was very grateful for the pastor’s visits and that of other Christian friends.

Mrs. Colvin leaves the following children, Fredrick Fagre of Birch Hills, Sask. Can., Marie Willinson of Orosl, Cal, Loui Fagre of Sioux Falls, S. Dakota, Oscar Fagre of Estherville and Otto Fagre of Minneapolis.

The funeral was held Saturday, October 31, from the Oscar Fagre Home at 1:30 and at the Estherville Lutheran church at 2 o’clock, Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating. Miss Bertha Gaarde sang a song at the home and Jennie and Josephine Handeland sang at the church.

Interment was made at the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 12, 1936)
