James Christian, a resident of Estherville for over 27 years, passed away at his home last Monday [December 16, 1940] morning after an illness of over a year’s duration.

Mr. Christian came here from Pocahontas where he had been engaged in farming. When he retired he and Mrs. Christian decided to make their future home in Estherville.

Mr. Christian is survived by his widow and four sons, Charles Christian of Fonda, Fred Christian of St. Louis, Mo., William Christian of Salem, Ore., and Richard Christian of San Bernardino, Calif. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 19, 1940)

Had Lived Here for Past 27 Years; Came Here From Pocahontas
James Christian passed away at his home on 644 south Eleventh street Monday morning, after an illness of a year’s duration. His death was caused from bronchial asthma.

Mr. Christian had been a resident of Estherville for the past 27 years. Prior to that time he had been engaged in farming in Pocahontas county. After he retired from the farm he and his wife moved to Estherville where they have made their home ever since.

Besides his widow he is survived by four sons, Charles Christian, of Fonda, Fred Christian of St. Louis, Mo., William Christian of Salem, Oregon, and Richard Christian of San Bernardino, Cal.

Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed pending word from the sons living in the west. (Vindicator & Republican, Estherville, IA, December 17, 1940)
