Former Estherville Area Farmer Dies in Minnesota
Estherville – Elmer Merriott Chambers, 84, a former resident of Estherville who attended school here, died Saturday [February 16, 1974] at the Fairmont Community Hospital. He had lived in Alpha, Minn., since 1929.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Estherville First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harvey Throop and the Rev. Henry Faucett officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The body will be at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home from 7 p.m. Monday until noon on Wednesday and friend may call during that time.

Mr. Chambers was born in Alton, Ill., Feb. 25, 1889 and came to Estherville with his parents when he was 11 years old. He attended schools in Estherville and farmed many years in the Huntington area, where he married Rene Weir April 12, 1911. He moved to a farm near Alpha, Minn., in 1929. He was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church at Alpha.

He is survived by his wife, Rene of Alpha; a foster son, Harold Miller, Alpha; a foster granddaughter and two foster great-granddaughters; one brother, Lewis Chambers of Brule, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. A. G. Henderson, Estherville, and Mrs. Harold Pannell, Hardy, Ia. His parents, a sister and five brothers have preceded him in death.

Pallbearers are Harlow Melum, David Mayo, Duane Erickson, Ralph Denney, Alfred Sieberg and Charles Tusa. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 18, 1974)
