E.E. Brown Is Buried; Stroke Caused Death
Funeral services for Edwin E. Brown, a resident of Emmet county for 47 years, were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the home of his son, Arthur E. Brown. The Rev. F. Yearnd, pastor of the Baptist church was in charge. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Cropley, John Blagg, Harry Hornby, Nate Rose, William Sweet and Samuel Fritz.

Two years ago Mr. Brown, who is 71 years of age, suffered a stroke of paralysis. He rallied somewhat from this and was able with some assistance to be about the house. Last November he suffered another stroke from which he never rallied and he has been confined to his bed since that time. He died Friday [March 8, 1929].

Edwin E. Brown was born at Harmony, Maine, in 1858 [cemetery records say 1857. He was the eldest son of three children born to Elijah and Caroline T. Brown. In 1869 the family came west and purchased land near Mineral Ridge, Boone county, Iowa, where they engaged in farming and where Mr. Brown grew to manhood.

In 1879 he was united in marriage to Martha Godwin. To this union five children were born. In 1882 they came to Emmet county which since has been their home. In October, 1928, his wife and mother died.

Those left to mourn the loss of a dear father and brother are three sons, Arthur E., Charles and Roy, two daughters, Mrs. Stella Brixon of Alta, and Mrs. Mable Davis of Sioux Falls, S.D. Also one brother, Fred L. Brown and one sister, Mrs. A. A. Crim, both of Estherville. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, March 14, 1929)
