Mrs. Brockway as Longtime City Resident
Susan A. Larson (Mrs. Jay G. Brockway) was born April 22, 1883 at Moline, Ill. She came to Estherville with her parents when she was eight years old, living in rural Estherville for 10 years prior to moving into the city. Since Oct. 5, 1905 she has lived in the present Brockway home at 713 North Sixth.

Miss Larson was united in marriage March 30, 1901 to Jay G. Brockway. Mr. and Mrs. Brockway had observed their 55th wedding anniversary this past spring.

Mrs. Brockway had been a faithful and active church worker at First Presbyterian church until 12 years ago when her health failed due to a severe heart condition. During this long period of illness she received medical treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Holy Family Hospital.

She had been confined to Holy Family hospital this time for a week prior to her death. Three daughters and a son were in attendance at her bedside when she died Friday, July 6, 1956.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. July 9, 1956 at the First Presbyterian church, the Rev. Thomas G. Melton officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Fern) Sternborg of Estherville, Mrs. Henry (Lavaughn) Assing of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Marshall (Esther) Lofton of Keokuk; one son, Glenn E. Brockway of San Bruno, Calif., 10 grandchildren, five brothers, W. C. Larson of Lakefield, Minn., Levi Larson of Duluth, Minn., Lewis Larson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Vernon Larson of Green Acres, Wash., and Ivan Larson of Willmar, Minn., and a sister, Mrs. Homer Cleveland of Fort Dodge. One daughter, Adeline, died in infancy two days after birth in 1904. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 10, 1956)
