Rites Friday For Mayme Alexander
Funeral services for Mrs. Mayme Alexander, 78, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after noon today.Mrs. Alexander was born Feb. 23, 1894, on a farm near Burt, Iowa, to Minnie and Frank Hayden, and died at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home April 5, 1972.
She spent her girlhood in and around Lone Rock, and Bancroft, Iowa, where she received her education in the local schools.
In 1911, she came to Estherville where she was employed for a number of years with the telephone company.
On Sept. 30, 1917, she was married to Mark C. Karr, who was in the garage business with Chet Ryder as a partner in the firm. Two years after their marriage, her husband died after a short illness.
She went to Bloomington, Ill., after her husband’s death, where she took secretarial training at Brown’s Business College.
Upon her return to Estherville, she was employed in a secretarial position with the Rock Island Railroad in the local offices for a number of years.
Before her marriage on Sept. 3, 1943, to David R. Alexander, local attorney and abstractor, she was employed in the County Engineer’s Office in Estherville.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Blanche Campbell, Mrs. Florence Smith and Mrs. Neva Ditsworth, all of Estherville, one brother, John B. Hayden of Moline, Ill., several nieces and nephews, also grand-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, one sisters and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 6, 1972)
