Mrs. Annette Wylder Dies After Being Hit by Car
Mrs. Annette Wylder of Tacoma, Wash., former Estherville resident, was instantly killed at Tacoma last night when struck by a car. Word of Mrs. Wylder’s death was received by her sister, Maude Hamilton and brother, George Hamilton, both of this city, in a telephone call from her son “Bud” Wylder of Tacoma. He said that his mother’s body would be returned to Estherville for burial and that he would send them further word late today or tonight. Further details will be printed in tomorrow’s Daily News. Last Rites for Mrs. Annette Wylder of Tacoma, Wash., former Estherville resident, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist church, the Rev. Harrison G. Dawes officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.Mrs. Wylder was killed Tuesday night at Tacoma when she was struck by a car just after alighting from a bus. She was en route from her apartment to the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. “Bud” Wylder and family. Mrs. Wylder had moved from Estherville to Tacoma six years ago.
Mrs. Wylder was born June 27, 1887 at Hebron, Nebr., and when a small girl moved with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm in Dickinson county. She received her education in the Dickinson county grade and High schools and taught school in that county before her marriage to Logan Wylder.
Mr. and Mrs. Wylder lived at Montgomery before coming to Estherville to make their home.
Two children were born to the union, a daughter, Lucille, and a son, Charles. Mr. Wylder died when the children were young and Mrs. Wylder continued to make her home here. She was employed for several years in the alteration departments of the John Hanson Tailor shop and Christensen’s Store. Since moving to Tacoma she has been employed in the alteration department at the Grason Department store.
She was a member of the Methodist church and of the Pythian Sisters lodge.
Mrs. Wylder also was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Lucille) Hemmingson who died in 1943.
Survivors include her son, Charles of Tacoma, Wash., three grandchildren; one sister, Maude Hamilton of Estherville, and three brothers, George Hamilton of Estherville, Clarence Hamilton of LeMars and E. J. Hamilton of Milford.
Mrs. Wylder’s body will arrive in Sibley Sunday and friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Chapel from Sunday evening until Tuesday at 11 a.m. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 18, 1955)
