Mrs. F. R. Whiting, Former Local Resident, Passed Away Thursday
Mrs. F. R. Whiting, 56, a former Estherville resident, passed away at her home in Fort Dodge at 10:00 o’clock Thursday [September 18, 1941] evening. Her death was sudden and unexpected. Efforts to revive Mrs. Whiting with the Fort Dodge fire department’s inhalator proved unsuccessful.Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Fort Dodge Presbyterian church. The body was brought to Estherville where burial was made in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Ella Marie Hager was born June 9, 1885, at Winona, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Hager, pioneer Estherville residents. On January 31, 1907, she was united in marriage with F. R. Whiting at Bloomington, Illinois. They moved to Estherville shortly after their marriage and made their home here for several years. Sixteen years ago they went to Fort Dodge where they have since lived.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Whiting is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Earl Hendricks of Fort Dodge; five sons, Dale, Ralph, Lloyd and Kenneth Whiting, all of this city, and Lamond Whiting of Moline, Illinois, and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Charles Hager, and one sister, Miss Anna Hager.
During her residence here Mrs. Hager made many friends who will deeply regret to learn of her death. She united with the Presbyterian church and was active in all the work of that organization. She made friends readily by her cheerful disposition and pleasing personality. Since leaving Estherville the Whiting family have been frequent visitors here maintaining valuable friendships which they made during their residence in Estherville.
