Mrs. David Weir, one of the old settlers of Emmet county, died last Friday afternoon. Her maiden name was Christina Richmond. She was born in Scotland 67 years ago, and married to Mr. Weir in Canada 44 years ago. They moved to Emmet county in the autumn of 1869, living for a few years near Armstrong, but for the past 21 years have resided in or near Estherville.

Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Weir, Miss Anna, the only daughter, died four years ago. The sons are living and six of them in this vicinity.

Mrs. Weir was an unassuming woman, industrious and patient, looking well to the affairs of her own household, obliging as a neighbor, generous to the needy, affectionate as a wife and mother and a constant follower of the Savior she professed to love. She was a Christian from childhood, and a charter member of the Presbyterian church in this city.

Funeral services were held at the family residence on Saturday afternoon. Rev. W. M. Evans spoke briefly from Prov. 31:28, a text that seemed eminently appropriate to the occasion. Many friends came to pay a tribute of love to the memory of the deceased and to express their sympathy to the family so sorely bereaved.

Mr. Matthew Richmond, brother of Mrs. Weir, and other relatives from Armstrong were present. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.

The every day life of Mrs. Weir in this community during the formative period has made an influence for good that time cannot destroy. She died as she had lived at peace with God through His Son Jesus Christ. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, June 29, 1899)

Christina Richmond, beloved wife of Mr. David Weir, after an illness of six months, departed this life last Friday afternoon. For some weeks the family had not anticipated her recovery.

She was a charter member of the Presbyterian church in this city, had lived in or near Estherville for 21 years and was a resident of Emmet county nearly 30 years. She was born in Scotland May 3, 1832, moved with her parents to Canada, where she married Mr. Weir, April 19, 1855. They were thus shared to each other as husband and wife over 44 years. Mrs. Weir leaves besides her husband and brothers, eight sons and twenty-four grandchildren to mourn her loss. Friends and neighbors gathered at the home on Saturday afternoon and held a brief funeral service. Loving hands placed beautiful flowers on the casket. A select choir sang appropriate music. Her pastor made a short address on Prov. 31:28 “Her children arise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
Mrs. Weir was a good woman, and in many respects an ideal wife and mother. Her life was quiet but full of good deeds and was an earnest and consistent Christian. Although she will be sorely missed in the home and church, yet she leaves to all who knew her a legacy of hallowed influences more precious than silver and gold. She is blessed because her life was a blessing to others. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, June 28, 1899)
