John Welsh, Jack Creek Farmer, Dies
John Welsh, 54, prominent farmer living in the Jack Creek community, died late last night at his home. Death was caused by a sinus infection and came unexpectedly. He had been suffering from the infection for about a year.He was born Aug. 14, 1895, on the home farm in Jack Creek neighborhood and lived there all of his life. He never married. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
He attended the public schools of Emmet county, graduated from the Electrical Engineering school at Kansas City, and took a business course at the University of Southern Minnesota at Austin.
He made farming his life’s vocation. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Armstrong and a commander of the same lodge at Estherville. He was a member of the Jack Creek school board for a number of years.
Survivors include his brother, Jim, at home, and sisters, Helen and Annie, also living at the home place, Mrs. Chris Ellerston, and a sister, Mrs. Isabel Skow, Lamberton, Minn., a nephew, James C. Ellerston, and a grand niece, Jean Anne Ellerston of Ringsted, as well as relatives in Nevada, Canada, Scotland, England and Australia. A sister, Eliza, preceded him in death. Welsh Rites Monday
Services for John Welsh will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday from Sandin funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Frilie Conaway officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. Friends who wish to pay their last respects may do so by calling at the Sandin funeral home anytime up to time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 17, 1949)
