Mrs. Ethel Watson Dies; Services Set Monday
Mrs. Ethel Sarah Watson, 96, died at 3 a.m. Sept. 21 in Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Reese-Henry Chapel, Estherville, with the Rev. Richard Pearson of United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 20, 1877 at Thompson, Ill., to John and Elizabeth Gleason. She was educated in Illinois schools for a few years before her marriage to Will Watson on Feb. 16, 1898 in Illinois. They came to Estherville community in 1911 and farmed east of Huntington. They moved into Estherville in 1918, where she has mad her home ever since.
Her husband died Jan. 31, 1956. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the last charter member of the Estherville Camp Chapter of Service Star Legion, a member of Royal Neighbors Lodge.
She is survived by two daughters, Josie Watson and Mrs. Joy Burrell, both of Estherville; and a nephew whom she raised, Lee Jones, Estherville; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one brother and two nephews.
Visitation may be made in Reese-Henry Funeral Home all day Sunday and until time of services Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 21, 1973)
