Thomas O. Thompson Dies at 85
Thomas O. Thompson, 85, longtime Estherville resident, died at 1:45 p.m. yesterday at Holy Family Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past eight years and was seriously ill for the past nine months.Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville, the Rev. James K. Lyon officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from Sunday morning until 10 a.m. Monday, at which time the body will be taken to lie in state at the church until time of services.
Thompson was born June 4, 1875, in Blue Earth, Minn., son of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Thompson. At the age of seven he moved to Estherville with his family and was educated in Estherville schools.
On Oct. 31, 1895, he was married to Rachel Solmonson in Estherville. Thompson was engaged in the contracting business here, retiring more than 25 years ago.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Men’s Council.
He was a longtime member of B.P.O. Elks lodge.
Thompson is survived by his widow, Rachel, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 3, 1961)
