Mrs. Trimble, Resident Here Since ’96, Dies
Death Follows Stroke on Friday – Had Large Circle of Friends
Mrs. Maggie Trimble, 92, well known resident of Estherville since 1909, died at her home here early Wednesday morning. She had suffered a stroke Friday from which she failed to rally. Although feeble she had been about her home much as usual this winter and enjoyed unusual mental alertness for one of her years.

Margaret Beatty was born on Nov. 18, 1840 at Hillsdale, Ohio. Her father, Melbourn Beatty enlisted in the Civil war and served as a color bearer in several engagements. He first enlisted in the infantry and was discharged because of physical unfitness but after resting and building up his health tried again and joined the cavalry. At Gettysburg Mr. Beatty had his hat shot off and his daughter often told of his narrow escape on this occasion and of the other engagements in which he took part.

In November 1861, Miss Beatty was married to Benoni Trimble at Hillsdale. In 1864 they moved to Rock Island, Ill., and shortly after bought a farm in Washington county, Iowa, where they resided for 30 years. In 1896 they bought the home farm northeast of Estherville and moved to this county. Mr. Trimble died in 1900 and in 1909 he widow and children moved to Estherville.

Surviving Mrs. Trimble are three daughters, Miss Birdie Trimble, Mrs. Dove Thomas, of Estherville, and Mrs. Rose Fitzgerald of Ainsworth and a son Benoni Jr., of Hillsdale, Wyo. The oldest daughter, Lilly and the youngest Lovella are buried beside the father in Oak Hill cemetery.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the home and at 2:30 from the M.E. church. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 11, 1933)

Obituary of Mrs. Maggie Trimble
Mrs. Maggie Trimble was born near Covington, Ohio, November 18, 1840. Died at Estherville May 10, 1933, following a stroke suffered Friday, May 5. She had been about her home all winter and was unusually alert mentally.

She was born of Margaret and Milburn Beatty. Her father served both in the infantry (discharged for physical disability) reenlisted in cavalry. He was color bearer and participated in many engagements, including Pittsburg Landing and Gettysburg where a shot went through his hat.

In November, 1861, she married Benoni Trimble at Hillsboro, Ohio. In 1864 they moved to Rock Island, Ill. Shortly after that they purchased a farm in Washington County, Iowa, where they lived for more than thirty years.

In 1896 they bought a farm home northeast of Estherville and moved to it. Mr. Trimble died in 1900. In 1909 the family moved to Estherville and have lived here continuously.

Surviving her are three daughters, Miss Birdie Trimble, Estherville; Mrs. Dove Thomas, Estherville; Mrs. Rose Fitzgerald, Ainsworth; Benoni Trimble, Hillsdale, Wyoming; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

The oldest daughter, Lillie (Mrs. I. G. Willey) and the youngest, Miss Lovella, are buried beside their father in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Benoni Trimble, Jr. who has been in Estherville to attend the funeral of his mother, Mrs. Maggie Trimble, returned to his home in Hillsdale, Wyo., Monday. He had to hasten home as his daughter, Birdie Marie is graduating from the high school at Hillsdale Friday evening. Jas. Fitzgerald, Jr., a grandson of Mrs. Trimble, and a teacher at Toledo returned to his home Sunday, also a granddaughter, Mrs. A. C. Taylor and husband to their home near Forest City, and another granddaughter, Mrs. Sheldon Fillenworth and son Charles to Cedar Rapids. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 18, 1933)
