Mrs. Nellie Smith Dies in California
Mrs. Tom (Nellie) Smith, 90, died Friday [August 28, 1970] at Oakland, Calif. Mrs. Smith is a sister-in-law of Mrs. Mack Ellis. The body is to be returned to Estherville for burial and services are pending at Fuhrman Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 31, 1970)

Mrs. Tom Smith Services Thursday
Mrs. Tom (Nellie) Smith, 90, died Friday at Oakland, Calif. She was born Sept. 4, 1879, in St. Joseph, Ill. Her parents were Uriah and Ida Ellis. She received her education in the schools at St. Joseph, Ill.

She was married in March, 1897, to Tom Smith. They farmed in the Huntington and Estherville vicinity. They also lived in the Laurens area before moving to Oakland, Calif., 35 years ago.

Survivors are a son, Lowell (Jake) Smith of Small River, Calif., one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Lorraine) Reimer, Grand Junction, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mack Ellis, a brother-in-law, Frank Smith, and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband passed away some years also, also one daughter, Viola.

She is the last of her family, having been preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Mack and William, and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Souders and Mrs. Myrtle Hindman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home with the Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Delbert Ellis, Evert Ellis, Harold Souders, Norwood Souders, Ed Shirley and Omar Smith. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 1, 1970)
