Former City Resident Dies in New York
Margaret Smith, former Estherville resident, died Friday [May 2, 1958] at the home of her sister, Gretchen Smith of New York City, according to word received here by friends.

Miss Smith was the daughter of John Smith, former Estherville resident, now living at San Diego, Calif. She was graduated from Estherville High School and the State University of Iowa, Iowa City.

She operated a private kindergarten in Estherville for a time and afterwards had a small book store in one corner of the Wilder Variety Store, not the National 5 and 10-$1 store. She left Estherville about 11 years ago and has made her home in New York City with her sister.

Miss Smith is survived by her father, her step mother, and one sister, Gretchen, with whom she made her home. She was preceded in death by her mother.

The body of Miss Smith is to be cremated, Mr. Smith told friends, and the ashes are to be bought home for burial some time later this week. Announcement of the burial service and obituary of Miss Smith will be published in the Daily News when available. Gretchen Smith will accompany her sister’s remains to Estherville.
