Death of Mrs. Frank Swartz
Mrs. Frank Swartz died Saturday morning, December 16th, at 7:30, at the home of her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Edwin McAffee on west Lincoln street, after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Presbyterian church and the remains laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.Elma Ruth McAffee was born in Exira, Audubon county, Iowa, June 27, 1886, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin McAffee, to Estherville in March 1900. She attended school and graduated in the Estherville high school class of 1908. She was a member of the Presbyterian church. In April 1909 she was married to Mr. Frank Swartz and has since resided in this vicinity. She was a lady highly respected by all who knew her and dearly loved by her relatives.
Besides a loving husband, a bright little two weeks old baby girl is left motherless. A father and mother, one sister, Mrs. Halsey Brunner, of Spooner, Wis., and two brothers, W. L. and L. A. McAffee are left to mourn the untimely death. The sympathy of this community is extended the bereaved relatives in their time of profound sorrow. Passed Away Saturday at Edwin McAffee Home in This City.
Mrs. Frank Swartz died at the home of her father, Edwin McAffee, Saturday morning at 7:30 o’clock of Puerperal Fever. She was taken sick last March at her home near Dolliver, and was soon brought here where she could secure better attention. Two weeks ago a girl was born and she gradually failed since then until death claimed her.The funeral service was held from the Presbyterian church Monday, and burial made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Frank Swartz was born in Audubon county 25 years ago. She came here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin McAffee in 1900. In march 1909, she was united in marriage to Frank Swartz and they have lived on a farm near Dolliver until her illness came on last March.
She was a good, conscientious young lady. During her residence in this county she has made many friends who are grieved to learn of her untimely death. That death should remove her in the prime of life, leaving a young husband and little babe is sorrow beyond measure. Besides her husband and babe she leaves father, mother, two brothers and one sister to mourn.

Mrs. Frank Swartz died at the home of her parents in this city last Saturday morning after an illness of several months. Funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.Elma McAffee was born in Audubon County, Iowa, June 27, 1886 and died in Estherville, Dec. 16, 1911, and hence was 25 years, 5 months and 19 days of age.
In 1900 she came with her parents to Estherville. In 1908 she graduated from the Estherville high school with honors and was considered one of the best in her class.
April 9, 1909, she was joined in wedlock to Mr. Frank Swartz and moved on to a farm near Dolliver, where she lived until her recent illness when she was brought to her parents for a mother’s care. Everything that medical skill and loving hands could do was done for her comfort and relief, but no cure could be affected.
Deceased was a noble young lady and a favorite among her associates. She endured the long weeks of suffering with a marked degree of patience and fortitude and seemed hopeful almost to the end that she would recover.
A husband, a baby girl, two weeks old, her parents, two brothers and a sister are left to mourn her untimely death. They were all present at the funeral. (The Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 20, 1911)
