Swale Home Saddened by Death of Wife and Mother
Death entered the Claude Swale home in Spirit Lake Sunday evening and took a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Swale passed away at 6:30 o’clock that evening after less than a week’s illness, which developed into double pneumonia. The death came as a shock to her family and her friends in Spirit Lake who had not heard of her serious illness.

Mr. Swale had been a resident of Dickinson county ever since coming here when a child only three years old. She attended the Presbyterian church and took active part in the work of the organization of the church.

Grace Reno Bryan was born October 22 1891, at Belmond, Iowa, in Wright county. She passed away November 8, 1931, in Spirit Lake, aged only 40 years and 17 days. She moved here with her parents when three years of age and has since resided here. On February, 1910, she was united in marriage to Claude A. Swale of Estherville. To this union six children were born, Jeanette, Mildred, Clarence, Fay and Betty Lou, aged only two years, and one boy, who died in infancy.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and five children, her father, George R. Bryan and stepmother of Spirit Lake, a sister, Mrs. Blanche Tilton of Winago, Minn., and a half brother, Earl Bryan, of Spirit Lake. Her mother preceded her in death 38 years ago.

The body was laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery beside her infant, following the services at the Presbyterian church in Spirit Lake, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, November 12, 1931)
