Mary Ann Sutton is Called by Death
(From the Daily Pantagraph, Bloomington, Ill.)
Another old time settler of Emmet county passed away last Sunday morning at Carlock. Mrs. Sutton came to Emmet county in 1896 and resided here until 1920 when she left for Illinois. The funeral services were held this afternoon from the Methodist church in this city and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.

The following is taken from the Daily Pantagraph in Bloomington, Ill.:

Mrs. Mary Ann Sutton died at the home of her son-in-law, E. L. Stephens, north of Carlock, at 12:30 Sunday morning, her death following a decline in health that began a number of years ago after she suffered a stroke of paralysis.

Mrs. Sutton was born in Riceville, N.J., June 15, 1845. When she was 10 years old she came with her parents by wagon to Illinois and the family settled at El Paso, where she grew to young womanhood and married Rev. John Sutton, Oct. 30, 1866. They were the parents of eight children, as follows: Mrs. C. E. Armstrong, El Paso; John W. Sutton and Wesley Sutton, Estherville, Iowa; Frank W. Sutton, Montgomery, Iowa; Mrs. Geo. Swanson, Whittemore, Iowa. Those who have preceded her in death are: Mrs. E. L. Stephens, Mary Harriet Sutton and Rachel Esther Sutton. She is also survived by a sister and two brothers, Lottie Render and John and Moses Render, all of El Paso, besides a sister in California and a brother in Oklahoma. There are also surviving seventeen grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death ten years ago.

Early in life Mrs. Sutton united with the Methodist church, of which she remained a faithful member. The body will be taken to Estherville, Iowa, where the funeral service will be held and interment will be made. The funeral party will leave today on the 10:36 Nickel Plate train and will be composed of E. L. Stephens and Mrs. C. E. Armstrong. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 31, 1924)
