J. B. Strait Lived Here for 15 Years
James B. Strait for many years a resident of Estherville passed away at his home at Nevis, Minn., on Friday, October 5. Mr. Strait was past 71 years old and had been in poor health for several years. The body was brought to Estherville where short services were held at the Mahlum and Anderson mortuary on Tuesday afternoon and burial made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Strait was born at Anamosa, where he made his home until 35 years ago. He then moved to Albert Lea where he was married to Miss Mary Peterson. After five years in Albert Lea, they moved to Estherville in 1895. Mr. and Mrs. Strait raised their family in this city but in 1919 were compelled to move to Nevis for the sake of Mr. Strait’s health.

Besides the widow, deceased is survived by five children, Ray of Backus, Minn., Russell of Estherville, Mrs. Harriet Smith, of Bemidji, Minn., James Strait and Mrs. Eleanor Shortridge of Minneapolis, (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 10, 1928)

J. B. Strait Dead
Burial services were conducted here Monday by the Rev. Alva L. Ragsdale for James B. Strait, father of Russell Strait of Estherville. Mr. Strait lived at Nevis, Minn., where funeral services were held. The body was removed to Estherville and burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Strait was born Dec. 22, 1856, at Anamosa, where he lived until his removal to Albert Lea in 1878. In 1888 he was married to Miss Mary Peterson and in 1894 moved to Estherville. He lived here until 1919, when he moved to Nevis, Minn., where he lived until his death, on Oct. 5.

Mr. Strait is survived by his wife, Albert Lea, of Chicago; Raymond of Backus, Minn.; Russell, of Estherville; Harriet Smith, of Bemidji, Minn.; Evelyn Shortridge, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and James, of Minneapolis. Two children, Walter and Genevieve, preceded him in death. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, October 10, 1928)
