A few days ago J. L. Stevens was taken violently ill. Dr. West, of Armstrong, was at once called, and found that he was suffering from appendicitis. Arrangements were being made for Mr. Stevens to undergo an operation Monday afternoon, but on Monday morning he became much worse, and he died at seven o’clock. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community. He leaves a wife and eleven children to mourn his untimely death. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 19, 1916)
