Mrs. Spande Dies at Hospital
The O.J. Spande home was saddened Monday [July 28, 1930] afternoon by the death of Mrs. Spande, who was sick only about five days. She took sick early Thursday morning and underwent an operation that afternoon at the Coleman hospital. She was 36 years old at the time of her death.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 at the house and at 2:30 at the Methodist Episcopal church. The Rev. W. A. WinterStein will officiate. A quartet consisting of Orin Manthe, Earl Josten, Mrs. Ed Stockdale and Mrs. N. H. McKerral, will sing two selections. The pall bearers will be Irwin Nichols, J. H. Cramer, Cliff Halleck, Carl Mickelson, Frank Logue and L. L. Smith. Burial will be in the Oakhill cemetery.

Beulah Amy Spande was born April 17, 1894, in Toronto, S.D. She spent her girlhood there and graduated from the high school. She then went to Watertown, S.D. and it was there that she met O. J. Spande. They were married in Watertown, June 1913. In September the same year they moved to Estherville and have made their home here ever since. To this union two children were born, Nanthalla, 16, and Earl, 11.

Mrs. Spande was a loyal member of the Methodist church and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, League of Women Voters, Woman’s Club, Royal Neighbor lodge and the Homesteader lodge.

Besides her husband, two children, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Nelson of Sioux Falls, two brothers, Amos Nelson of Sioux Falls and Grant Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif.; six sisters, Mrs. Hazel Jones of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Violet Edgington of New York City, Mrs. Rachel Huffman of St. Cloud, and Mrs. Lucille Jolivette, Mrs. Nina Payne and Mrs. Alice Sharpen of Sioux Falls. They were all here but Grant Nelson and Mrs. Hazel Jones. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, July 31. 1930)
