Kenneth Starkey Dies Suddenly, Rites Wednesday
Kenneth L. Starkey, 66, longtime and well known area resident died suddenly at 3:30 a.m. at his far northwest of Graettinger. Death was attributed to a hear attack.Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Graettinger United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronald Swedberg officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery at Estherville. The Fuhrman Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were E. B. Burg, Ray Ruppert, Gerald Bonstead, LeRoy Schacherer, Morris Dalen and Lester Larson.
Kenneth Lester Starkey was born Sept. 17, 1902, at Panola, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Starkey. The family came to Iowa when Kenneth was 10 years old. He received his education in the area schools.
On Sept. 12, 1923 he married Mildred Love at Estherville. They farmed in Emmet County after their marriage. He was a member of various community activities and boards and at the time of his death he was chairman of the official board of the United Methodist church in Graettinger.
Immediate survivors include his wife, Mildred; one son, Dale, Graettinger; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Zona) Appel, Madison, Wis.; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; three t, Mrs. Fred Goddard, Havelock; Mrs. Russell Johnson, Graettinger; and Mrs. Jim Jensen, Graettinger; one brother, Robert, also of Graettinger; stepmother, Mrs. Robert Starkey, rural Graettinger.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard; his parents and four brothers, William, Virgil, Woodrow and Cletus. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, December 19, 1968)

Services for Kenneth Lester Starkey, 66, rural Wallingford, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger, with the Rev. Ronald Swedberg officiating.Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Graettinger after 3 p.m. today until 11 a.m. tomorrow when the body will be taken to the church.

At the age of 10 he moved with his parents to Emmet county. He received his education in Illinois and Iowa. On Sept. 12, 1923 he married Mildred Lour [Love] at Estherville. He died suddenly at his farm home.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Graettinger and was chairman of the church board.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Dale of Graettinger; one daughter, Mrs. Paul Appel of Madison, Wis., nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Goddard of Havelock; Mrs. Russell Johnson and Mrs. Jim Jensen, both of Graettinger; one brother, Robert of Graettinger; and his step-mother, Mrs. Robert Starkey of Graettinger.
