Mrs. I. Stanhope Obituary
The remains of Mrs. I. Stanhope, formerly a resident of this city, was brought here for burial Monday. Mrs. Stanhope came here many years ago with her husband who was engaged in business here for several years. After the death of her husband she remained here for many years moving two years ago to Kansas where she resided. Many of the older residents remember her and the family who were very highly respected residents of this city. Mrs. Stanhope at the time of her death still held many warm friends and acquaintances in this city.Marian M. Shesmore (Chessmore) was born in March 20, 1844 in Bango, Franklin county, N.Y., and died at Ludell, Kansas, Sept. 11th, 1921 at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 21 days.
She was united in marriage to Isaiah Stanhope April 16, 1861 in Franklin county, N.Y., where they spent their early married life. In 1866 they moved to Linn county and in 1891 they came to Estherville which has been their home and where her husband died November 27th, 1911.
To this union six children were born two of whom have preceded her, Arthur D. Stanhope and Nettie Poland Markley. The four remaining children are Ernest I. Stanhope of Humboldt, Iowa, Lillian A. Farrell and Edith L. Ford of Carroll, Iowa, and Warren E. Stanhope of Philadelphia, Pa. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and six great grand children.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral services were Mrs. Rosie Postle and Mrs. Viola Moses, Emmetsburg; O. I. Poland, Watertown, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Marsh and son; Morris Stanhope, Mrs. Leon Fitch, Mrs. Maude Wilcox, Mrs. E. I. Stanhope, Humboldt, Iowa; Mrs. Roy Fawcett, Clifford Stanhope, Dakota City, Iowa; G. E. Farrell, Carroll, Iowa. (The Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 21, 1921)
