Mr. I. Stanhope Dead
Had Second Stroke of Paralysis Friday and Died Monday Afternoon
Mr. I. Stanhope had a second stroke of paralysis last Friday which left him in a helpless condition and he gradually grew worse until Monday afternoon when death came to his relief. He was 74 years of age.Funeral is to be held this afternoon from the residence and interment made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Isaiah Stanhope was born on October 22, 1827, at Richland, Vt., and moved to Franklin county, N.Y., when nine years of age. He was married to Marian Chessmore in 1861 and moved to Iowa in 1866, locating in Linn county. Here he spent most of his active life. He was engaged in farming and in the mercantile and stock and grain business. He moved to Estherville with his family in 1891 and with his two sons, E. I. and A. D. engaged in the grocery business. For eight years this firm remained in business. After his retirement from the firm he still made his home in Estherville. He was a member of the Free Methodist church and a man well liked by his neighbors and friends. He leaves a wife, two sons, E. I. Stanhope, of Humboldt, Iowa; Warren E. Stanhope, of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Farrell, of Gray, Iowa, and Mrs. Edith Ford, of Nepolian, N. Dak. Two of his children have passed away, A. D. Stanhope, who died eight years ago, and Mrs. Geo. Poland, four years ago. One brother, M. W. Stanhope, resides in Estherville and four other brothers and sisters in Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held in the home Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. C. W. Sutton and the remains interred in Oak Hill Cemetery. (The Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 29, 1911)
