Jacob Snyder Dead
The Spirit Lake Beacon gives the following account of the death of Jacob Snyder, a former Estherville citizen. He will be remembered by many of the early residents of the town. He was a bachelor and lived at the Miller house. He left here twenty years ago:

“The deceased was a brother of Marcus Snyder, of this place, and well known to the early resident of Dickinson county. He came here in 1865 and took a homestead and resided in the county most of the time until he moved to Pueblo, Colorado, about twenty years ago, where he died March 30th. Jacob Snyder was born in Dutchess county, New York, November 5, 1839. The family moved to Illinois in 1848, and four years later to Winneshiek county, Iowa. They moved to this county in 1875 and resided for some time on the homestead on the west shore of West Okoboji lake, now the farm home of Val Van Steenburg. “Jake” as he was known by all the pioneers, was a robust man and as jolly as he was powerful. He had a kindly disposition and his death will be regretted by many Beacon readers who knew him well in the early history of this county.” (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, April 12, 1911)
